HHRF received recognition in an
article in the Island Packet covering the HHRF Funded Waddell Mariculture Center tour program which set to resume Feb. 5, 2007

One of the latest projects to be approved by the HHRF is the reinstatement of a tour program at the Waddell Mariculture Center in Bluffton, SC. The center was originally established for research and development of commercial aquaculture of fish and shrimp, much of their focus now includes marine finfish research and stock enhancement programs for species indigenous to Beaufort county waters. The center is one of the leading research centers for two of our most recreationally important game fish species, red drum and cobia.

Four years ago, due to severe statewide budget cuts and the concerns about bio-security, the center was forced to eliminate their popular facilities tour and school educational programs. The HHRF has stepped in to ensure that such a valuable education resource does not fall by the wayside. The story of what the center has done for all of us and what it can do in the future is best understood by visiting the facility and interacting with their talented staff.
